About Fontaine

The brand system for teams that can’t wait on a review

We make the rules once, then let the software keep them.

Fontaine began with a narrow complaint: a marketing team publishes every day, and one designer reads every post. We built the kit, the locked templates and the approval thread so that the designer’s time goes into the system and not the queue.

01 — The problem

Off-brand is rarely careless

A post goes out in the old green because the old logo was in a folder. A deck carries last year’s tagline because nobody told the person who copied it. Nobody was careless. The kit simply lived in a PDF, and a PDF can’t object.

Guidelines that can’t push back get ignored.

The usual fix is a review step, and a review step becomes a queue. The designer reads every post, the team waits, and the calendar slips. Fontaine moves the check to the moment of creation: the wrong color isn’t offered, the locked logo can’t be nudged, and a retired mark is gone from the picker.

02 — Principles

Four rules we build by

They settle most arguments about what goes into the product, and what stays out.

The kit is the source

Every color, font and logo in a design points back to the kit. Edit it there and the change reaches every template that uses it. We don’t keep copies.

Constraints beat reviews

A locked layer can’t be moved, so there is nothing to catch afterwards. We would rather remove a mistake than flag it.

Designers set it, teammates use it

The people who care most about the brand decide what can change. Everyone else gets room to write, resize and publish without asking.

Quiet software

Few notifications, few settings, no dashboards for their own sake. If a feature needs a tour to be understood, it isn’t finished.

03 — Built and supported

Boring where it counts

Fontaine is a web application that runs in the browser, with an API for the places a brand kit has to travel, such as code, invoices and help-center art. We would rather be dependable than clever.

  • Versioned, alwaysEvery kit change and every design edit keeps its history, so a rollback is two clicks.
  • Access that matches the org chartRole permissions and SSO on Atelier. Editors, reviewers and viewers on every plan.
  • Support that reads your kitWrite to support@tryfontaine.com and your message goes to a person who can open the same workspace you are looking at.
  • Your files stay yoursExport the whole library and the kit whenever you like. Leaving shouldn’t need a ticket.
04 — Where it’s going

What we are working on

No dates, because dates we can’t keep help nobody. The order is the order we are building in.

In progress

Deeper locking

Rules that go beyond layers: minimum type sizes, protected margins around the logo, and color pairings that must hold contrast.

Next

More formats

Presentations and long-form documents built from the same locked grid as social posts, with the same one-click resize.

Later

Kit across tools

Brand tokens published to more of the tools your team already uses, through the API and the integrations page in settings.

Plans are billed yearly, from $159. The kit is in every one of them.

05 — Start

Give the kit a job

Choose a plan, invite the team, and the next post is built from the kit.
